Are there any openings for the current school year?
At various grade levels, there may be openings throughout the school year. We do accept applications throughout the year, so your student could receive immediate placement, if requested.
What are the criteria for acceptance?
Acceptance is based on our ability to meet the educational, emotional, and social needs of each student, and the availability of an appropriate classroom placement.
What do you need for the application process?
Complete an online application (available through the Admissions Portal), submit any current professional testing (within the past 2 years), copies of current report cards, and a non-refundable processing fee.
How long does it take until we know if our student has been accepted?
After materials have been received, the Admissions Committee will review everything. You will be notified by phone or mail usually within a week.
Can students enroll at any time of the school year?
Yes, we accept enrollment throughout the year.
Do you have speech therapists who work with the students?
Yes, we have certified speech and language therapists on staff. All new students are screened to see if this is a service that would be beneficial. If so, your student may be offered a place. There is an additional fee for this service. If you already have a therapist, our teachers will collaborate very effectively with speech and language therapists who work outside of Tuttle School.
Do you have occupational therapists or physical therapists who work with the students?
We do not have occupational or physical therapists on staff at Tuttle School.
Do you do any testing or evaluations at The Tuttle School?
We ask that all professional evaluations be done outside of Tuttle. We believe that this gives us an objective view of each applicant.
Can you give us some names of professionals who do testing?
Yes, we can provide names of several professionals who do an excellent job evaluating students. Call the receptionist at 281-493-1070 for information.
The Tuttle School has an average Teacher/Pupil ratio of 8 to 1. When all aides, specialists, and consultants are considered, the ratio is 4 to 1.
How many students are in a class?
Homerooms are limited to 8-10 students per teacher. A teacher assistant is also assigned to each homeroom class. Many classes have far fewer than ten, as additional teachers are incorporated into students’ schedules throughout the day.
What about school lunch?
Tuttle School has its own lunchroom. Epicurean Delight is our school caterer. On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, they provide a healthy hot lunch or a la carte options. Students may also choose to bring their lunch. We are NOT a nut free campus.
What about transportation?
Tuttle School students travel from all over Houston and the surrounding areas. There are many ways students come to school each day. Tuttle parents have organized busses, van services and carpools. Please call the receptionist at 281-493-1070 for more information.
Where do I drop my child off in the morning and/or afternoon?
Drop off and pick-up of your children is on Whittington Drive. Late arrivals, (after 8 a.m.) or late pick-ups (after 3:10 p.m.) go to the front office.
Do students wear school uniforms?
Tuttle School requires students to wear school uniforms which may be purchased from our uniform provider, Parker School Uniforms, at any Parker location, or through the Parker website. Enter ID Code: HO201264 to view uniforms for Tuttle School.
What is the best way to communicate with my child’s teacher?
The best way to communicate with your child’s teacher is by email, phone, or text.
Is there daily communication given regarding my child’s day?
Yes, for Lower Tuttle School, each teacher has a written daily communications log that shares the events of your child’s day.
How do you determine when students transition to the next class level?
The factors that determine when a students transitions to the next class level may be the amount of time spent at that level, usually two years, or their age.
Are Community Based Instructional Trips (CBI) offered to the students?
Yes, several CBI trips are offered throughout the school year: plays, museums, book fair at Barnes & Noble, Target shopping and field day at a private facility.
When does school begin each day? How early can my child arrive?
The school day is 7:55 am to 3:00 pm for all children every day except Wednesday. On Wednesdays, students are dismissed at 12:00 p.m. Students may arrive by 7:45 a.m. each morning.
Why do you dismiss early on Wednesday?
Wednesday afternoons are reserved for staff development and teaching-team meetings to plan for individual students. We encourage families to schedule play dates or appointments with professionals.
We have children in another school. Will the school calendars match?
Tuttle School has a regular school calendar from August to May. Regular holidays coincide as closely as possible with other schools in Houston.
Is there any kind of after-school care?
For students in Tuttle School an after-school program is provided on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Is there tuition assistance or financial aid?
Yes. Application for tuition assistance can be made after the student has been accepted and all required enrollment paperwork is received. We have chosen SmartAid to process financial aid applications for parents of current students only.
How soon will I know if I qualify for financial aid?
You should receive notification by mid June. Be sure to apply early. The Briarwood School determines financial aid annually. Amounts may change and are not guaranteed from year to year.
