Clubs & Extracurriculars

Participation in school-sponsored organizations allows our students to developing problem-solving, leadership, and collaboration skills outside of the classroom.

Student Council

Tuttle School students participate in Student Council, often a first for many. Through Student Council, students organize and support food drives, blanket drives for local animal shelters, book drives, and other community needs. Teaching our students the importance of volunteering and of giving back to others fosters the value of character and humanitarian service.

Tuttle School student council has three elected officers: president, vice-president, and secretary. These officers campaign, make speeches to the student body, and are voted into office by their fellow students in Tuttle School.

Student Council is also composed of nine homeroom representatives: Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Pessoa, Mrs. Rucker, Ms. Wilson and Ms. Hooper’s class. A faculty member sponsors the student council meetings. The president of the Student Council presides over the weekly meetings using an agenda. Minutes are kept of the meetings and representatives maintain a folder of the minutes, which are used to report back to their homerooms. At the meetings, the council members determine service projects.

Some recent service projects facilitated by the Student Council are:

  • Annual Bake Sale for students and staff at Briarwood/Tuttle School
  • Blanket Drive
  • Book Drive for Books Between Kids
  • Food Drive
  • Hygiene Drive for the Women’s Shelter
  • Pet Supply Drive for a local pet shelter
  • Shoe Drive for WHAM

Work Force/CBVI
Through Community Based Vocational Instruction (CBVI), Students are provided opportunities to develop and improve job readiness skills, learn appropriate work behaviors, and establish a positive work ethic. Students achieve success by mastering skills that bolsters self-esteem and independence. In Work Force, students start the transition process in middle school. They acquire the skills to make them successful in life in whatever path they choose. We start with skills including sorting, assembly, packaging, filing, stocking shelves, bagging groceries, and various fine motor tasks. We have different stations that the student can work in including office, housekeeping, recycling, gardening, and grocery.
Camps
With day and overnight camps offerings, our students are provided fun, social opportunities that are similar to those of their siblings. For many families, the summer camps provide breaks (respite services), often a first-time experience for parents and siblings. The most important thing is that the students have fun!
